How do you get Linux to rewrite the actual part of the mbr that does the booting (not the listing/menu) without doing a reinstallation? I've somehow written over it. With a 201, 164 error the system should boot the reference diskette. When the diskette drive itself is bad, perhaps worn out, the PS/2 does exactly what this poster describes, boots right past it. The BIOS is programmed to do that because that's the only way to recover from that problem.

Often get Win98 boot errors (VXD exceptions, etc.) after copying OS partition from one hard drive to another. Also when upgrading motherboard or CPU. MS support says to format drive and reinstall OS and all programs. There must be a simpler way. Any explanation would be useful. Robin.

HD problems
I tried the boot floppy with out a ram disk maker on it and now a scandisk of C returns errors that it cannot be done. As far as an adaptor for putting this in my desktop machine I think my money would be best spent getting a different drive from ebay. I am worried that could be a waste of money.
